There are many advantages of self-powered speakers. The ability to tailor the amplifier, the crossover filter and advanced DSP to each individual driver enables more compact designs with better sound quality.

Musical instrument amplifiers
Bass players have a lot to thank ICEpower for. Their amps used to be big, heavy, unreliable and not very energy efficient as they were built on tube amplifiers and heavy linear power supplies. From the mid ‘00s new, lightweight bass amps with more power and increased reliability was offered by several leading bass amp manufacturers. Many of these new products are based on ICEpower solutions. These new bass amps enabled bass players to carry much less equipment when touring and playing gigs. Great for bassists, bad for chiropractors.
Guitar amplifiers are now starting on the same journey towards modern, energy efficient class D technology. An increasing number of guitar amplifiers are incorporating DSP based modelling techniques and hybrid designs, using traditional tubes for the pre-amp. Thus essentially creating “the sound” in the pre-amp section and using a neutral sounding and efficient class D power section.
